《太空戰士VIII》是由史克威爾（現史克威爾艾尼克斯）在1999年於PlayStation平台上發行的電子角色扮演遊戲，是Final Fantasy系列第八部正傳，同年本作也移植至Windows平台。因當時史克威爾授權的港台攻略本與媒體使用港台舊譯「太空戰士8」，所以港台許多老玩家稱此作為太8。是系列首部完全使用現實比例角色造型的作品。遊戲系統取消了一貫消費魔力值發動魔法的方式，改以新創的抽取指令搭配結合系統以培養角色。本作同前作FF7一般採用了具多種現代科技元素的世界觀，但也有著如「魔女」這種具有強大魔力的神秘存在。遊戲講述了一群傭兵學園學生——隸屬於組織「SeeD」——的故事，劇情裡主角群的行動深受世上多數存在的「魔女」所影響，而魔女中強大者甚至能壓縮時間，牽動著角色們的過去與未來。主角史克爾成為SeeD後的首次任務，即被捲入刺殺暗地掌控一國之魔女「Edea」的行動中。
